A. Morning Musings

5:30 am The temperature is + 8 C with a high forecast of +23. 30% chance of showers.

My list of immediate tasks around the house is a little shorter:

  • visit cement expert about parging the front cement foundation
  • review condition of 5th wheel before taking it in (needs 4 new tires)

Rain yesterday prevented work on the sidewalk. We still have a little more work to do as we finish adding cement to the corner of the foundation. Then we need to prepare the ground for the addition of sand to prepare the sidewalk area for the patio bricks and then we put the bricks down and the job is complete. I should also see what I can find about parging the wall in front of the sidewalk.

Tomorrow will be spent in Calgary visiting mom and my brothers. Hopefully we will lay down the patio bricks early next week.

Then I may begin to focus on my model trains.... The next steps here are to review the layout for the turnouts and see if I want to install some of them with the controller under the table. Then wire the lower mainline track for a power block using 18 guage wire and feeder connectors. This will involve attaching the track to the table (glue and/or small nails). This must be done very carefully to minimize derailments later.

Chores, model trains and literature are all activities that can be done in the afternoon and evening. My early morning time is best spent on Learning activities (which includes maintaining this web site). I need to establish a few priorities for this time. Three items that come to mind are Technology: digital photography, Mathematics: calculus, and History: read "Ideas". I need a second item for Mathematics as I want to do more than just study calculus. I also want to play a bit with recreational mathematics.

I have been googling a little about truck campers and have found one model, a Palomino Bronco, that has a low profile with a raisable roof. So far the only dealer I have found that sells these is in Great Falls ( http://www.mccollumrvs.com/New%20Truck%20Campers.htm ). I need to check with Canada Customs about what procedures would need to be followed if I were to purchase it in the USA. I might also check the local dealer and see if they can provide one.

C. Actual/Notes

11:50 am We have finished with the sidewalk work for the day. We have completed pouring the cement into the mold on the corner and have levelled off the ground. The next step is to add the sand and then the patio bricks. But I also need to find out a bit more about parging. We will tackle this project again on Tuesday as we have other committments for the next three days.

8:00 PM I finally saw an electic wok that appealed to me and I decided to buy it. I am now ready to begin some serious study of recipes and meals that can be prepared using it. This has been a latent idea for the last 6 months while we were in Australia. Now I can begin.
