Snow shovelling. There was about 6", which was more than I was expecting. But it is beautiful clean sparkling white.
Another good day for indoor activities.
Model Trains: I have spent about 3 hours assembling a plastic kit of an oil loading platform. It is going well and I expect to have it finished after dinner.
We had some chicken thighs in the freezer that we wanted to cook, so I typed a few words into google and found a recipe for "pollo al ajillo". I then modified the procedure, keeping the thighs intact (but removing the skin) - the recipe suggested cutting off the meat into small chunks. The recipe primarily involved cooking the chicken in a cup of liquid that was 50-50 broth and sherry. I was not sure how this would taste as I have never tried cooking with sherry - at least not in that amount - but it turned out very nice. The chicken was rubbed with paprika which gave it a nice color (and taste).
The oil platform is complete. Another small addition to the model train layout.
I have finished reading "Lost Souls". I loved it. The novel remained true its goal of portraying rural Russian culture in the early 1800's. Gogol's style of writing is a delight. There is humor (often wry) in every sentence. It is interesting to compare it with "Freedom" by Jonathan Franzen which I read a couple of weeks ago. Franzen has the same goal - to describe American life in the late 20th century - as seen through the lives of a "typical" family.
