B. Actual Learning Activities

11:00 am

A quick trip to Costco for a few groceries resulted in one new book:

"Cool Water" (2010) by Dianne Warren.

This was the winner of the Governor General's Literary Award for 2010.

6:00 PM

I spent a couple of hours trying to work through a few of the problems in section 1.2 of "Introduction to Linear Algebra". I am having some success but am also struggling in a few cases. I do not yet have a "firm" understanding of the nuances of the inner product. I have no difficulty computing it, but I do not yet fully appreciate the implications of different values. I do enjoy the struggle - I must move this up as a higher priority.

I continue to find time for a little reading of "Lost Souls". It is a very neat novel.

9:00 PM

Model Trains: I had a good 2 hour session at the layout. The time was primarily spent forming the consist for Train 600 in the Jasper Yard. I am getting much better at seeing an efficient sequence of moves for moving cars about a fairly full yard. Once everything was ready the train headed east on the mainline, finally coming to a halt as it approached Black Diamond where it will engage in some switching.
