Brrr. Easily the coldest day of the winter. The local roads are a mess from the heavy snowfall and drifting from the weekend, but I think the main roads and bus routes are not too bad. I will be testing them later this morning.
Much of my time during the last few days has centered around the Ship It! program and my model train layout. Although the lack of progress has been disappointing, I am continuing to learn about the system. I think I have a pretty good idea of the balancing aspect, and I definitely see the reason for many of the problems (e.g. duplicate records, cars indicated as not active, discrepancies between shippers and consignees, too many or too few cars of a particular type) but I still do not seem to have my two unit trains working properly with the software. I will have a close look at the manual this morning to see if I can get an idea of the proper settings.
I will keep my list of potential items the same as yesterday.
Meanwhile, on the other side of the planet, the rains and consequent flooding in Australia are capturing our attention. Horrific images and descriptions are now on the web as well as our main television news channels. We can only hope the immediate tragedy will soon abate, but the effects will be felt for a long time to come.
