5:10 am Morning Musings
We are in for at least a week of fantastic weather. Nothing but sunshine and warm temperatures.
Today is a holiday. Labor Day. What better reason to spend it painting the backyard fence? But first I need to wait until about 9 am so the temperature warms up a little and so there is light to see by. At the moment it is still pitch dark outside.
I have my fingers crossed that we will be able to arrange to have the dirt in the lane as well as some yard refuse that we have accumulated over the years hauled away tomorrow.
Overnight I have been soaking a cup of 9 Bean Soup Mix. This should be ready for lunch.
This is a good time to sit back, sip some fresh brewed coffee, and finish reading "The Hidden Connections".
6:30 am Science
A great way to begin the day.
I have finished reading Fritjof Capra's "The Hidden Connections". The book was originally written in 2002. I wish I had read it sooner. It is a stimulating book that provides an integrated set of suggestions for how we could improve our lives while simultaneously improving the overall ecology of the planet. While sounding many warning bells it remains fundamentally a positive book with numerous suggestions at various scales of implementation.
Here are 3 web sites that are mentioned in the final chapter:
- Center for Ecoliteracy (www.ecoliteracy.org)
- Second Nature (www.secondnature.org)
- Rocky Mountain Institute (www.rmi.org/rmi/)
All 3 sites are American. It makes sense to identify a few sites with an international flavor.
3:00 PM Life
We scraped and cleaned all of the backyard fence as well as the patio fence. We then stained the first 3 panels along the south side of the yard. They now look much cleaner.
