5:45 am Morning Musings
I have a full list of items on my ToDos list for today.
Technology: I am hoping to hear from Adobe today about a Dreamweaver problem that I am experiencing. The program now fails to save my login data for saving files to a remote server after I close the program which means that I have to input this each time that I upload revisions to this website.
Technology: I will be phoning Garmin about a problem I am having with my geocache files on the nuvi. Basically the device is working okay but if I change the batteries on the unit then it brings back all of the records that I have deleted, cluttering up my Favorites file rather badly.
Technology: I have a few questions about which maps I should include if I buy a new Garmin 62st. The device looks to be a good one but I have read reviews that suggest the topo map that comes with it is nowhere near as good as one called Backcountry. Thus it may make sense to buy the 62s model and add my own topo map. However I still like the nuvi for road routing as it provides voice directions. The reviews of the 62s indicate some possible problems with the case and squeeking when pressing the keys. Thus I would like to touch the device before committing myself to a purchase. This may involve a drive to Calgary later this week.
Cooking: I have been soaking some beans overnight and plan to make a pot of bean soup this morning.
Model Trains: I should spend some time with this today, as I begin trying to balance my database values in the Ship It! program. This might be a good item to begin the morning with.
Geocaching: The weather is still poor for outdoor activities. Rain continues to fall off and on. However there is a new cache in Nicholas Sheran park which is a short walk from home. This is a difficult area during weekends, and even during the day, because of the frequency of muggle traffic. I may walk over now and see if I can find it. Nope. There was a muggle fishing within 10 meters of the cache site. Another time.
3:00 PM Technology
I talked with a techie at Garmin this morning and they replied via email later in the day with a suggestion for resolving my problem with the nuvi. I'm not sure I fully understood the email, but it triggered a memory about making sure that the caches deleted from the unit when it is attached to the Mac are also emptied from the trash before disconnecting the unit from the computer. I tried this and everything is now working fine. Great.
I am now pretty sure that the best option for me would be to buy a Garmin 62s and then add the microSD Backroads BC & Alberta map. I would continue to use the nuvi for most of my highway road navigation and I would use the 62s once I left the main highways.
No word from Adobe about the Dreamweaver problem.
