10:00 am Technology
I have spent about 3 hours this morning on software related matters related to my Garmin GPS unit. First the good news. I have successfully updated my North American maps on the nuvi. The bad news is that it took 2 tries, each try taking about an hour to download and install.
More good news. I downloaded a new Garmin software package called BaseCamp. And it is free! This looks like a superb program for exchanging geocaching information between my Mac and my Garmin nuvi.
Now for some bad news. There is definitely a problem with my nuvi. I have been able to determine that it successfully adds and deletes geocache information from the geocaching web site. Good. However if I then remove the battery (say it is low) and replace it then all of the geocaches that were deleted are back in the menus. I will be phoning Garmin tomorrow to see if they can fix this.
But I will end with some good news. Garmin has recently released a new product that is an upgrade from their very successful 60GSx model to a 62S. I am seriously thinking of buying one for my off-car geocaching activities.
4:00 PM Literature
I have spent a leisurely afternoon reading "Surface Detail". Pure escapism, but one that makes one think about a possible future that is based on taking virtual reality to a whole new level.
