I have finished cleaning the track for the entire layout. Queenston and Wild Rose were done this morning. In working on this I noticed two places where the track connectors were improperly set up. This will only take a few minutes to fix but it is a reminder of the detail underlying the entire hobby. I think that is one of the reasons I like it.
I have tried running a unit coal train but immediately ran into difficulties. The coal cars, which had never actually been used on the layout, kept derailing. A careful examination of their tracking indicated that the problem was with the cars rather than the track.
I replaced the wheels on one car with Proto2000 36" non-magnetic wheels and that seemed to make a big difference. Unfortunately I only have enough wheels for one more car. Time for a break.
