A. Morning Musings
Mmm. I slept like a baby. I now have a fresh cuppa beside me and am looking forward to the day.
One immediate plus is that I will not be able to do any long-term activities. That leaves general visiting activities and perhaps a little recreational Learning.
B. Actual Learning Activities
3:00 PM
I am back from a visit to Greenwoods' Bookstore, my favorite shop in Edmonton. This time I focused on fiction. Here are the 7 titles, based in the order that I selected them:
- The Aeneid. (2006). Virgil. Translated by Robert Eagles.
- This is another of the classics that I have never read. A new translation is motivation enough to give this a first read.
- The Tao of Writing: Imagine. Create. Flow. (2006). Ralph L. Wahlstrom.
- I think there are some suggestions in this book about journal writing.
- The Outlander. (2007). Gil Adamson.
- This was one of two books that I bought that had a "Greenwoods' Bookshoppe Staff Choice" sticker on it.
- The Cheese Monkeys. (2001). Chip Kidd.
- This is a book that plays with typography and page layout as well as with words.
- The Penguin Book of Canadian Short Stories. (2007). Selected by Jane Urquhart.
- I checked the index and it included "The Painted Door" by Sinclair Ross. An excellent reason to see the other stories that Urquhart has selected, stories that "have gone into me".
- House of Leaves. (2000). Mark Z. Danielewski.
- This was the second book that had a "Greenwoods' Bookshoppe Staff Choice" sticker on it. This also utilizes a variety of page layouts.
- The Age of Shiva. (2007). Manil Suri.
- This is about India at the time of the partition, a topic that intriqued me while reading "The City of Djinns" by Dalrymple a few weeks ago.
- And God Created Manyberries. (2007). Ron Wood.
- Manyberries is an important part of my family history. 'Nough said.
