A. Morning Musings

I left Lethbridge on Wednesday afternoon, left Vancouver at midnight, and arrived in Sydney Australia Friday morning. Now to get this web site up to date.

I bought 3 books while in the Vancouver airport:

I have read 500 pages of "Time Regained" while sitting in airports and airplanes during the flight from Lethbridge to Lismore. I estimate that this took about 10 hours. I will add that to today's total as I do not have any web pages for April 3 & 4. There was a section of about 100 pages where the commentary of memory and psychology was stunning. I want to prepare a few notes on this.

First priority is to begin recharging the batteries for my camera and my iPod.

Activities related to AusWeb will count as a Technology activity.

My early morning reading of Rumi is now up to date and my camera battery is recharged. The iPod battery may take awhile longer.

In Search of Lost Time: Time Regained" (vol. 6) (1927)

Marcel Proust

I have taken a volume of this series each time I have travelled to Australia over the last few years. I have marked the psychology sections in each volume with a pencil but have decided not to copy this all in a set of notes. In part because many of the sections are quite long, and in part because if I need to refer to some section I should be able to find it fairly quickly by looking for the marked sections of the book.

These books are not for everyone. Proust's sentences are famous for their length as he wrote in a "stream of consciousness" form with anywhere from a dozen to over commas in a single sentence. The novels do provide a glimpse into society life in Paris at the beginning of the 20th century but that is all that the novels provide. There is no plot of any kind and their isn't even much action.

But for me the novels provided an excellent introduction into how the human mind, particularly memory, manifests itself.

My tutorial at AusWeb 2008 was handled this morning. I also have updated my iPod player to the latest version and have learned how to place video files on it. Each day I learn something new.
