My reading is moving along on schedule. I expect to finish reading "The Way the Crow Flies" today and am making good progress on the quantum physics book. While the last few days have begun with physics, this morning I feel like beginning with "The Way the Crow Flies".

My book order from Amazon.ca arrived this morning. I was not expecting it until next week.
The three Rumi books and the Persian Book of Kings are all a result of reading The Kite Runner. The two math books were serindipidous - I noticed them while on the amazon.ca web site.
Now to fit these into my reading activities.
I have just finished reading this novel. I would rate this story as 5 out of 5.
My reaction went through three phases, corresponding to the three main sections of the novel. My first reaction was quite negative as I began to realize the horror underlying the story. This turned to suspense as I followed the nature of the mystery underlying the who-dunnit, then admiration as I began to fully understand the impact of the events on the people involved. There are many unsung heroes and many villains, although who is what may differ depending on the reader.
My early suspicion as to what happened missed by a mile. The twists and turns of the last hundred pages were incredible.
But the overwhelming reaction was one of admiration for MacDonald, who crafted an amazing story with a powerful message about democracy and our roles in it. I think I recognized almost all of the allusions to daily items that one would have encountered in 1963 - 65. In this respect it reinforced the fact that I also grew up in Canada during these times. My two favorites were Kraft Dinner and the RCAF Golden Hawks.
