The wind is up this morning. Not a good day for walking.

I have just completed a hour in another world, that of the Afghan immigrant in the US. Hosseini can write. The March 17 Rumi reading ends with the following:
Look inside form. Read with your soul
this Masnavi. Let it bring you
morning water and a poet.
This has been a great beginning to the day.
Typing the word Masnavi into google has been an eye-opener! Here is the wikipedia entry: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Masnavi
Here is the complete translation: http://en.wikisource.org/wiki/Masnavi_I_Ma%27navi
Looking up Masnavi earlier this morning led to another google search, this time using the word "Shahnamah". That lead to amazon.ca where I have just ordered 6 books. This is not the first time that I have had such fun.
While ordering these books, there was a link to "recommendations" (based on my previous orders). This led to two more books:
I will have some interesting reading in the month ahead.
A great story.
This book read easily and very quickly. I could hardly put it down. The time just flew by and before I knew it, I was finished.
This novel shows the power of a good story teller. One gains a much clearer idea of what is happening in Afghanistan and how it is affecting many normal citizens in that country. One also sees the situation of immigration in a new light. The fundamental ethics of the Afghani culture comes through and is a sobering contrast with our own culture.
I highly recommend this novel to anyone interested in the history of Afghanistan. It is also a first-rate yarn, for anyone interested in a good yarn.
I am looking forward to his more recent novel: A Thousand Splendid Suns.
