A. Morning Musings

During the last few days I have been preoccupied with sorting out my non-fiction books. We took 4 boxes of books to the public library on Thursday and I have 3 more boxes ready to go: 2 to the public library and 1 to the uni. I have simply put a number of others into the recyling box.

B. Actual Learning Activities

11:00 am

I have been playing around with the idea of taking photos of the books on the shelves near me. The problem is that I need to enlarge the photos so that one can read the titles on the spine of the books. This then distorts the page that it is on to accommodate the wide photo. A better approach is to place all of these photos on a separate web page.

Okay, if I am going to take a photo, or five, of my science books, then I should make sure that all of my books are included. This means bringing up a few more armfuls of books from the basement, removing some books from my shelf behind me, and deciding of those that I remove, which ones I give to a library and which ones go to the paper recylce bin.

This is a slow process as I often spend 5 or 10 minutes looking at a book before putting it back and trying again. The big casuality, at least at the moment, has turned out to be my technology books. Being ruthless, but rational, I have discarded many of my early Web books as well as a number of books that discuss how to use computers in education. I also had to substantially rearrange the location of many of the remaining books.

Now to begin by placing the pile of science books into the newly created space.

1:10 PM

Two hours later I have two boxes of books for the public library, one box for the uni, and a box for recycling. But more satisfying still is that I have ALL of my Science books organized in a series of 6 shelf modules directly behind me.

5:00 PM

I have placed the six images on a separate web page, called Dale's Science Books. since viewing the images involves horizontal scrolling. It should be possible to read most of the titles. Use the back arrow of your browser to return to this page.

Once again, a very satisfied feeling. My science books are finally organized and in a location where I can browse them. The problems I was having with some of the code underlying these pages have been resolved. Now to relax with a fine cup of tea.
