CBC Headline: Toronto Police Launch Major Raids

Police in Toronto arrested dozens of people early Wednesday morning in a series of raids targeting suspected street gangs in several neighbourhoods. The raids come in the wake of a brazen daytime shooting last weekend that killed one man and wounded three others as cars raced down a residential street in Rexdale in the city's northwest. The raids targeted suspected drug rings and illegal guns in a crackdown on what is believed to be a continuing turf war between rival gangs in the areas. This is a serious problem in the Toronto area.

Australian Headline: (from The Australian): Unions entitled to target marginal seats, says Rudd

Federal Opposition Leader Kevin Rudd has defended the union movement's plan to campaign against the government in marginal electorates in the lead up to the federal election. Mr Rudd today said unions and businesses were entitled to run political campaigns. “The thing about our democracy called Australia is that unions can have their say, big business can have their say and the people will decide,” Mr Rudd told reporters. “So, it's just as okay for big business, be it through the BCA (Business Council of Australian) or ACCI (Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry) to be out their arguing their case as it is for unions to be arguing theirs. The ACTU is recruiting a national army of activists to fight in marginal seats as part of an election strategy aimed at driving the Howard Government from power.
