A. Morning Musings

5:35 am It is -8 C at the moment with a high of -1 C forecast. There is more light snow falling.

Here are the news.

CBC Headline: Long Term Effects Feared From Acid Spill

An Ontario Northland Railway train jumped the tracks in northern Ontario and about 150,000 litres of sulphuric acid spilled into the Blanche river. Residents from nearby towns are being warned not to drink the water nor let animals near the river. Crews are dumping lime into the river in an attempt to help neutralize the effect, but there are concerns that there will be lasting damage from the pollution. It is surprising to me how often these train derailments result in pollution to nearby waterways, but I guess it is because derailments that fail to do damage also fail to make the news.

Canadian Headline: see above

Australian Headline: (from The Australian): Aftershocks Rock Solomons As Thousands Seek Refuge

At least 10 aftershockes of magnitude 5.0 to 6.0 were registered in the region following the initial 8.0 earthquake that hit the area yesterday. 22 deaths are confirmed but this is expected to be much higher after the true extent of the damage is assessed. Gettting aid to the survivors is difficult because of the remote nature of the region. Complete villages appear to have been wiped out by the tsanami that followed the earthquake.

My weight is steady at 188.

C. Actual/Note

9:00 am Here are two more photos showing the beginning of the spring activity of the May tree in our backyard.

And here is one more of our vehicles in the front driveway. The snow all fell overnight (the road was bare when we went to bed last night).

6:00 PM It has taken all day, but the web pages for the trip to Mexico are now complete! Except for the special pages that I want to add for the bird watching. They may be seen by going to the Journal Index and clicking on any of the dates between February 12 and March 6. Or go to Feb 12 and simply keep clicking on the Next Page links to proceed through the trip.
