BICYCLING

·         Maui (Hawaii) - 1976

Maui has some incredibly beautiful scenery.  Here is some of it.  Not only is the Hana Highway beautiful, check out the campsites!

·         Across Canada (Trans-Canadian Highway) - 1980

Well, I wasn't sure where I was going when I started.  I started biking in Oregon headed up the coast.  The trip was going so well I decided to turn east across Canada. Check out the equipment -- a borrowed bike and $40 panniers! (It just goes to show expensive equipment isn't necessary!)

·        Across the US - 1983

California, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky, Virginia, DC, Maryland, New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachussets

This was a better planned trip.  I made a $500 investment in bike and gear this time. Still, there are things to deal with. This picture was taken at a washout.  It was a typical desert stream that, after a rain had flooded out the highway.  But now it was only about 2 inches deep, an easy wade -- but a nice way to cut down on car traffic)

·        Moab (Utah) -- 1995

Eventually I found my way into mountain biking.  Here I am at the famous "Slick Rock" trail. Just incredible!

·        Colorado Trail (Denver to Durango) – 1995

This is REAL mountain biking. As in through the mountains.  The intent was to bike all the way from Denver to Durango -- about 400 miles.  But the snow was too deep in '95 for a bike with 40 pounds of gear, even in August, so we ended up shuttling by car to sections of the trail.
