Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
Getting GIS Data
Stay tuned...this will be posted shortly.
GIS Resources
In many ways a Geographic Information System (GIS) has become such an important tool for analyzing things spatially that there use has become very widespread. We teach several courses at the University of Lethbridge that incorporate some aspect of GIS into the lab and or lecture. Users of GIS (and most notably ArcGIS) will find the following recourses useful:
#1 ESRI Training (probably the most important link)
http://training.esri.com/gateway/index.cfm
Click “Find Training" and then "View Entire Catalog” on the right side of the page (below the Search button).
Also click “News” and look at ArcNews, ArcUser, and ArcWatch
#2 Here is the list of ESRI virtual campus courses that I can get you access codes for. We have a “standard” license here and the University.

#3 ESRI Mapping Center (has some good tips on creating maps).
http://mappingcenter.esri.com/
#4 ESRI International User Conference (good to see where things are going…and what is new with ArcGIS).

#5 ESRI Support Center
The Support Center will likely be your most valuable asset after leaving school. And maybe while your in school too!
#6 ESRI Products page. For example, check out “Developer Tools – ArcGIS Web Mapping”)

#7 Other suggestions:
RSS some blogs – for example, join the GoogleEarth Blog, ArcGIS Server Blog, The Map Room, others? If you find any really cool ones let me know.
