I am falling behind (again) on this activity. Yet it is one I value.
First, a partial explanation. I have been adding pages to the web site on William Gibson's latest novel, All Tomorrow's Parties. I have just finished chapter 43.
I also managed to find some quiet time yesterday evening to continue reading The Tao of Inner Peace. Here are some selected quotations:
- "The basic building blocks of existence are not infinitesimal bits of matter as once was thought, but probablilities, dynamic patterns of energy, neither particles nor waves but something in between." [p. 30]
- "... too often modern society drives us to exhaustion with continuous frenetic yang activity. As we strive to acquire more, our busy behavior shuts out the wisdom of yin. We all need periods of quiet reflection." [p. 32]
- "Living the Tao is like working with wood. One must not go against the grain." [p. 35]
- "The early Taoists revered tortoises because they know when to withdraw unto themselves." [p. 42]
- "Ghandi kept a day of silence once a week." [p. 42]
- " 'I love a broad margin to my life.' [Henry David Thoreau]" [p. 80]
- "Tao people take time each day for personal rituals of stability. ... A balanced life takes discipline." [p. 81]
