This evening a had my first look at Umberto Eco's "Kant and the Platypus". Basically this is a collection of essays about semiotics. The introduction has a playful tone, Eco is clearly a person who sees the fun in thinking, and doesn't worry about being "scholarly". This is important to me. The book lets the author shine through, rather than pretending to be an objective description of the truth.

The book promises to be a fairly slow read, since it really makes me think about a number of issues. The first chapter is about "Being". What does it mean to say that something exists, that I exist? Great sport.
