I was able to find an hour to continue the reading of Alexander's journey. He is now just passing through the Hindu Kush.
There was a brief aside where the meaning of the term was clarified. Kush means "death" and the name for the high mountain pass referred to the many Hindu women that died while being forced over the pass and into
slavery in Persia. History is not always pleasant.
I am just over half way through the book, and am enjoying the descriptions and the scholarship. It is living up to my hopes of providing a rich description of the context within which the story unfolds. It is also
extremely interesting where the author compares the information from the different sources and provides his commentary on possible interpretations. There are few "facts", and those that exist are often at variance
with one another.
