8:15 pm A fairly quiet, relaxing day. I did manage to get some reading done. Alexander takes control and moves north to put down some of the tribes on the north east and then the north west. He then leads a 2-week forced march south to Thebes and puts down a potential Greek revolt. Thebes is totally destroyed. Alexander then returns to Macedonia to prepare for his invasion of Persia.

There is a good description of the military tactics of Alexander. The 18 foot long spears were called sarissas. However the author gives at least as much credit to Alexander's modification of the phalanx to a wedge shape, from a rectangle.
