A busy two hours this morning working on this web site. Much of the time was spent determing the best parameters for scanning the daily doodle pages.
As an arbitrary decision, I will not count this 2 hours as part of the "learning time" for today (although strictly speaking it is devoted to the creation of these web notes). Hopefully the time spent on technical
details will now fade into the background. I view this as simply the early front-end costs of getting something established.
More notes later - assuming I get around to devoting an hour to actually "learning".
I spent an hour in mid-afternoon reading Books XVIII through XXI. There was no attempt at note taking or analysis. I just let the words speak for themselves. The hour just flew by. Allan Mandelbaum's translation has
a wonderful rhythm to it. Sometimes it is best to simply enjoy the story. I will attend to a few comments after I am finished reading the book. After reading these
chapters I went downstairs and built a fire in the fireplace and just did nothing - but mused about the book and the contribution Homer has made to our lives. There is a time
for musing - not everything needs to be written down or documented.
