I had an enjoyable hour today reading about the Early Bronze age in the Aegean.

  • 40,000 BC - evidence of early humans in Greece
  • 6,000 BC   - evidence of permanent settlements, agriculture, domesticated animals
  • 3,000 - 2,000 BC - early bronze age in Aegean
    • Crete
      • complexes of building made of stone and mudbrick
      • stucco wall surfaces
      • barley, wheat, olives, grapes
      • sheep, goats, pigs, cattle
      • pots, terracotta & stone figures
      • woven textiles
      • painted pottery
      • buried dead in stone graves
    • Cyclades (islands SE of mainland)
      • fortified walls (unknown in Crete)
      • famous for marble sculptures of small figures (spectacularly beautiful)
      • pottery vases and animal figures
    • Greece
      • complexes of buildings, possibly palaces
      • pottery shows much diversity

I then tried typing "early bronze age aegean into the Google search engine. Here are a few interesting sites:
