  • Stylesheet Designer online tutorial

I created a Stylevision "Project" yesterday, but am not confident of either the prodedure, or what it really means. I was hoping that it would combine my three files for the amportal page, but I don't think it did that.

  • Stylevision contains the "Project", which contains the XML and schema files.
  • I used Project -> Add Files to Project menus to add the amportal XSL file to the project.
  • I downloaded an FOP (Format Objects Processor) from the Altova web site and installed it.
  • I am still having difficulty with my three files and Stylevision interface.
  • Downloading the FOP was a diversion, one which I wasn't totally sure I understood, but the net result was that my Stylevision Designer is now able to display pdf files.
  • Also I now understand the term "Authentic Stylesheet": it is the window in Stylesheet Designer (earlier this was simply called the main window).
  • After completing the first 6 pages of the tutorial, I now have a pretty clear idea of how to insert static text into a display (just type it in!) as well as inserting a URI.
  • I am still struggling! I now realize that if I open an XML file (in Stylevision), one of the tabs at the bottom of the main window is "Authentic". This is what they mean by "Authentic".

Let's try this again, from the beginning. I have created two files: a schema file for amportal and an XML file for amportal. The first step is to open Stylevision and access those two files. The relevant link is to the XML folder within My Documents. Then load the Project file amportal and I have them both.

Clicking on the XML file displays the page as it would be seen in a browser since the stylesheet is already linked to the XML file. However I need to open Stylesheet Designer to edit this stylesheet.

The next step is to add this stylesheet file to the amportal Project. Now comes the confusion. I am not sure of the extension for this file. Is it .xslt (which has a green Stylevision icon) or is it ?. I have decided to delete the .sps file and start over. I will name the new stylesheet file amportal7. It has the extension .sps (which seems to get confused with SPSS files!!).

This is now working. I made a connection between the new amportal7.sps file and the XML file for the stylesheet.

Something is not working. I have hung the system and will need to start over!
