A. Morning Musings

5:00 am It is +5 C at the moment. There is a forecast of rain for later today which is supposed to last for the rest of the week.

B. Plan

I have some early morning banking to attend to, then a dental appointment at noon and a social get-together at 3:30 this afternoon. My primary computer activity is to work on the North American bird data base and the iPhoto library. I will try to find some bright colored circle stickers that I can add to my Birds of Alberta and to my Sibley Guide to Birds that will indicate which birds have been seen and identified.

C. Actual/Notes

5:40 am Now to put in a hour on updating my North American bird database.

I noticed that when one first opens iPhoto, the software loads the thumbnails quickly but if one wants to work with the file it is a good idea to wait a few minutes until the behind the scenes processing catches up. I tried duplicating an image yesterday and was surprised when it failed to appear in the library. I tried a few times with the same result. I then went on and did some other work and when I returned to the program I found that I now had multiple copies of the record.

I am working on my July 17 images at the moment.

7:40 am A good beginning to the day. It is very time consuming to look at a photo of a bird, enlarge it, and then compare it with various images in books. In time, this should be much more automatic, but right now I am still a novice. As a result of this morning's work I am able to say that we now have 88 North American lifers and our running total for 2006 is 24. This includes all of the data I have up to and including August 16 (the first day of our trip to Virginia).
