Tuesday August 29, 2006 7:00 am Williamsburg, Virginia. Day 14 of our trip to Virginia.
A. Morning Musings
7:00 am We arrived at Williamsburg yesterday in the early afternoon. This is the goal of our trip. We phoned our hosts from the visitor center as we were unable to locate their address on our maps and they came over and guided us to their home. Phyllis and Margaret immediately began work on scanning photos and comparing notes on genealogy while Bill and I had a grand time talking about university life.
Williamsburg is a high tourist area, which we had failed to realize. Today we will play the role of tourist and see what we learn about the first British settlement in North America as well as the last major battle of the American War of Independence.
B. Plan
We will tour some of the historic sites in the immediate vicinity of Williamsburg.
C. Actual/Notes
Yesterday we visited the original site of Jamestown where the first English settlers arrived and established the first permanent settlement in North America in 1607. Here are a few photos of our visit.
