A. Morning Musings

6:30 am The temperature is + 7 C with a high forecast of + 25. There is nothing but sunshine in the forecast.

I have had another look at the patio bricks that I laid down yesterday. I think that it is fine. That means that I rent the guillotine this morning and see if I can finish this task by noon. I also need to sweep some sand over the bricks to fill in the gaps between the stones. I am reluctant to add to my list of tasks for the day. Completing the sidewalk will be a major accomplishment, one that began on June 5. There are a few more household chores but they are all relatively small tasks.

C. Actual/Notes

1:40 PM I finished today's work with the patio bricks by 1:00 PM. I was pretty well exhausted as the sun was beating down directly on me as I lifted each stone out, readjusting the level of the sand, and then relaying the bricks. This time I was very careful to check the level of the bricks with an 8 foot 2x6 board, lining it up with bricks at each end and then making sure that all of the bricks between the end bricks were the proper height. I had not thought of this yesterday as I was focusing on just keeping the bricks aligned. Each day I learn something new, although I should have thought of this the first time. There is nothing like feedback to show one that there is a problem. When I walk on the bricks now they feel right, whereas before they felt like I was on a slope.

Redoing the patio bricks
End of today's work

There are still two tasks remaining: cutting bricks to fit the small areas along the edges and sweeping sand into the gaps between the bricks. I will rent a "brick guillotine" on Monday and with a little luck will finish this project by early afternoon.

A fresh shower and something to eat and I am feeling ready for the rest of the day, although I do not wish to tackle anything that takes a lot of effort, either physical or mental. A good time to relax and read "The Eagles' Brood". Today feels like summer - the first time in over two weeks.
