A. Afternoon Musings

4:15 PM There is an obvious shift in these pages at the moment. It is a reflection that I am quite capable of having a life off the screen. The trip to Currumbin yesterday was superb! We forgot about the one hour time change in Queensland and arrived just in time to see the Lorrikeet feeding in the morning. We stayed on the grounds until closing and arrived back in Ballina, after stopping at Lennox Head for some fish & chips, just as it was getting dark. My first venture with the new camera was a success. I have some work in front of me getting the photos organized, but that can wait for a few days. 4:20 PM

B. Plan

Chores: None

Exercise: Byron Bay lighthouse walk.

Technology: Begin learning to use new digital camera.

C. Actual

4:20 PM We went to Byron Bay this morning and returned about 2 PM. I took some images in TIFF format but when I downloaded them I also had a corresponding JPEG for each image. I am not sure how that happened. Also, I see very little difference between the two images on the screen. I clearly have some more learning in front of me.

I did my walk to the lighthouse - the first time while on this trip. It felt great. I also found a new bookstore and bought 3 books:

  • How Proust Can Change Your Life (1997) by Alain de Botton
  • The State of Africa (2005) by Martin Meredith
  • M. C. Escher: Visions of Symmetry. 2nd ed. (2004) by Doris Schattschneider.

The first caught my attention because I have just finished reading the 4th volume of In Search of Lost Time by Proust, the second because I noticed it on a shelf in the ABC shop in Ballina when I first arrived in November but is was gone when I returned the next day, and the last is a book that I have the first edition, but this looks like a gorgeous book and I couldn't resist it. I have begun the Botton book. 4:35 PM
