1. Students will develop a profound understanding, in the sense described
by Liping Ma, of the basic mathematical concepts taught in the elementary
school curriculum.
2. Students will review, and become intimately familiar with the materials
developed by R. J. Wright and his colleagues for the Count Me In Too
project.
3. The student will be able to synthesize the perspectives of both
Ma and Wright into the development of a set of pedagogical approaches
for use in the classroom.
4. Students will integrate information on: (a) mathematical concepts,
(b) the psychology of learning mathematics, and (c) the teaching of
mathematics into a coherent whole.
