I phoned a company this morning about removing the may tree stump. A fellow came over to have a look and provide an estimate. He said that it would have to be removed by grinding rather than by using a chain saw. But he then determined that the only way he could position a grinder next to the stump would be by removing two panels of the patio fence so he could have a path wide enough to accomodate the machine.

This turned out to be relatively easy. Thank goodness.

A crew will arrive tomorrow to take out the stump.

[Addendum 6:00 PM] Earlier this afternoon I had a run-in with the patio fence. If one looks closely at the above photos one can see that I left the upper horizontal 2x4 in place to keep the fence structure solid. It is. I am fortunate to walk a little slower than I did 10 years ago. As you can now guess, I walked right through the open area - or at least I tried to. Wham! My lower lip hit the beam and brought my entire head and body to an abrupt stop. Clearly I am getting too old for construction work. The amount of blood on the wood was minimal and I didn't ruin any of my clothes. And I don't think I am suffering from a concussion. But my ego took a hammering.

While enjoying a happy hour in the patio G ___ suggested that it might be possible to drive a bobcat to the area where the excess dirt is located. Great idea! Now to set that up tomorrow.
