6:30 PM Geocaching
We are back from a quick one-day trip to Calgary to take care of a few errands. One of these involved visiting GPS Central to clarify a mix-up on a previous order. Easily done. While in the store I bought a friction stand for my Montana unit plus three geocaches for placing in new caches that I hope to create in the near future.
6:30 PM Literature
I also found time to visit a bookstore and buy a few books.
- "The Elephant's Journey" (2008) by Jose Saramago.
- I have read a couple of other books by Saramago and thoroughly enjoyed them. I picked this one up as soon as I saw it.
- "A World Elsewhere" (2011) by Wayne Johnston
- Similar comments apply to Johnston. I picked this up quickly.
- "Hitch 22" (2010) by Christopher Hitchens
- I have his previous book, "god is Not Great" (which I have yet to read!) but have noted his appearance in the news from time to time and am now doubly motivated to read both books. I just googled his name and found a website for an e-journal called Slate. This looks like a fascinating site.
- "Muzzled" (2011) by Juan Williams
- The subtitle of this book is "The Assault on Honest Debate". This looks like a stimulating read.
- "David Thompson" (2010) by Elle Andra-Warner
- I have a number of books on David Thompson's life. This is a brief synopsis of his life that describes the main events and highlights.
- "Quadrivium" (2010) by John Martineau (Ed.)
- This is an intrigueing compilation of chapters on the four classical liberal arts of number, geometry, music and cosmology. The section on the harmongraph caught my attention. It reminds me of a paper I presented on the Butterfly Curve.
Needless to say, I am delighted with these purchases and am eager to begin reading them.
