10:00 am Geocaching

I attended an event cache this morning:

It is always a pleasant time to meet a few of the geocachers whose nicknames have become familiar over the last couple of years.

This brought my overall total to 1010.

5:00 PM Life

We have finalized our plans for the back yard. We definitely have more dirt than we can use with our new layout. Thus the simple solution is to proceed as we originally planned and then load the excess dirt into the truck and take it to some landfill area.

We then focused on adding the compost, peat moss, sheep manure and garden soil to the raised beds. Having completed this we realized that we still need more garden soil. We hope to purchase this tomorrow and add it to the beds, thus completing that phase of the project. It is impossible to get good soil from this area so we are buying it in small bags from a home gardening center. It is now off-season so the price is quite low making this a viable alternative.

The next step is to remove the may tree stump. This is turning into a fair challenge but I should be able to finish this in a few days. I now have a trench about 8" deep around 2/3 of the stump. My thinking at the moment is to complete this trench and then to rent a chain-saw and cut the stump out in small pieces.

There are still a few little tasks to be completed. I need 2 more pieces of 2x6x8' to form a barrier along our south fence. This will be easy once the dirt has been removed from the area.

We finished the day with a delicious meal of pork back ribs that had been in the slow cooker all day. Yum. The meat literally fell off the bones.
