I have just placed an order for one sheet of Instant Horizons (#949-701 Sierra Boomtown) to complete the scenery for the layout. It should arrive in about 3 weeks.
I have relaid the track for the mainline loop around the outside of the layout.
I then began cleaning the track in the Coaldale yard and set up CN 1706, a GP-7 diesel locomotive. It has a 72400 Loksound v3.5 soundfile 72428 (GP7, EMD) decoder installed. The next few sessions will be a combination of track cleaning and running of locomotives. I still need to learn some of the features of the decoders.
While cleaning the track I happened to notice that one switch in the Yard was wired incorrectly (i.e. straight through and turn were set for the red and green buttons on the side control panel instead of vice-versa) and I corrected that.
CN 1706 ran very smoothly along the track in the Yard and the switch controls were now functioning properly. It really felt good to be running a locomotive on the layout again.
