Let me try to identify a few of the above books that are leading candidates. "A Year With Rumi: Daily Readings" by Coleman Barks is an easy one. I like Rumi and a page a day is not onerous. "The World of Zen: The Way to Inner Calm" is another book in a similar vein. Finally I would like to read Bertrand Russell's "The Problems of Philosophy". This was recommended by James Russell as an excellent introduction to philosophy. It also represents a western perspective to balance the two eastern views.

The above list was created on January 7, 2008.

Here is a list of Philosophy books that I have bought this year.

Here is a list of my favorite Philosophy books that I have read and kept. The rating scale is primarily 4's and 5's. Books less than that fail to make the list. The 5's are books that I recall as being spectacular but the 4's are also very good books. Of course, the reasons behind such a rating are personal and reflect my biases and preferences.
