The intent is to begin with a table that outlines the major goals for the month. This is then broken down into a series of weekly tables. During the month items are completed, discarded and added. In the "End" column on the following pages, green indicates the activity was completed and red indicates that it was discarded. White indicates that it is still in process.
The colors in the left column are those I have been using for the last couple of years to identify the category of learning that the activity represents:

July 1, 2007
The above table was created with the following thoughts in mind.
Literature: I should be able to maintain a minimum of a book a week. At the moment I have just begun a detective novel by Jeffery Deaver. These are fast paced novels and easy to read. Escapism at its best. I recently found "Eugene Onegin" by Alexander Pushkin among my books and definitely want to read this. I will follow this with another book that has been on my shelves for a few years, T. J. Binyon's biography of Pushkin. Then I would like to read "Kafka on the Shore" by Haruki Murakami. I now have four books identified and in a small stack set aside to remind me of the goal for this month.
Technology: As should be evident by my journal entries over the last couple of weeks, I am now beginning to feel much more competent on the use of XHTML and CSS for creating web pages. I would like to extend this in two directions. One would be to further my experience at creating web page layouts using XHTML and CSS, particularly in the use of tabular displays using <div> tags and CSS to control the appearance. I would like to buy one or two or three books that emphasize this approach and which then give examples of its' use. Second, I would like to try creating my own XML files that use educational tags and then use a style sheet to display the result.
Reviewing the above two paragraphs, I realize that is more than enough for one month. I will honor the two remaining objectives of completing "The Canon" and reviewing my notes on "Algebra: Abstract and Concrete" by Frederick Goodman but will not add anything else to my list of indoor activities for the month. That still leaves outdoor activities and I hope we will be able to get out for at least 6 birding trips during the summer.
