CBC Headline: Aftershocks Rattle Japan After Major Quake

Sunday's earthquake was of magnitude 6.9 and aftershocks are expected for the next few days. One person has died and 193 have been injured as many peoples have either collapsed or been damaged. Japan is in one of the world's major earthquake zones and there has been much research done on how to minimize damage from such events.

Canadian Headline: Decision Day In Quebec

Today is the provincial election in Quebc. It is considered a three way race between the Liberals (federalist), Parti Quebois (PQ - separatist) and the Action Démocratique du Québec (ADQ). The latter party is relatively new on the scene but is led by a charismatic leader, Andre Dumont who represents a change from the traditional choices, which many voters are disenchanted with.

Australian Headline: (from The Australian): Heat Turned Up On Howard Over Workplace Laws

PM Howard has indicated that he will not back down on his workplace reforms. Labour has said that the new laws penalize workers and make it much easier for employers to fire workers without cause or to require them to work overtime without compensation. This looks like it will be a major issue in the upcoming fedral election later this year.

My weight is up 1 to 189. This is the first day when I have had a reversal. I expect a couple of these over the two months when I am striving to lose weight. The real challenge is to make sure that it is only a small blip rather than a serious trend. Daily monitoring helps me spot this as soon as it occurs so I can take a serious look at how much I am eating and reduce it.

C. Actual/Note

6:10 am Yesterday I finally got around to reviewing and editing the photos I took while we were in Mexico (February 12 - March 07). Our time their was divided fairly evenly among visiting Mayan ruins, birding, and touristing. I have made a web page for February 12 but now realize that I also want to make a birding notebook page for each day that we spent bird watching. I am definitely playing catch-up at the moment: organizing my photos for the Mexico trip, converting my LP records to MP3 format, and trying to lose weight. At the same time I am trying to return to my mathematics review as well as continuing to read literature. My model trains activities have yet to surface, and I would like to begin working on crossword puzzles.

But the highlight for Monday is an early morning coffee at The Ugly Mug with Frank. Now to make myself a cuppa to get my heart started for the day.

I received the following image from Allan showing that my web creation activities while drinking coffee have a long tradition:

2:35 PM Here are two more photos showing the beginning of the spring activity of the May tree in our backyard.

9:30 PM I finally have begun creating web pages for our trip to Mexico, plus notebook pages for our Mexican birdwatching activities.
