Assignment 1

Due: 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 16

1. Evaluate the following integral:

   

   Give a floating-point (decimal) answer to at least four decimal places.

   Maple notes: Don't forget that the exponential function is exp(x) in Maple. Don't worry if Maple doesn't seem to do anything when you first try to evaluate this integral. Use evalf() on the result anyway.

2. Plot the function on the interval .

   Maple note: is Pi in Maple.

3. Find one solution of the equation . Do not convert your answer to floating-point form.  

Bonus:

Your graph of f(x) should show that there are (at least) two solutions to the equation of question 3. Find another. Full marks will be given if you can give an exact answer, but some credit will be given for a floating-point answer.
