In 1996 we obtained our first dog - a flat-coated retriever.  Flatcoats were developed in the early 1800s, likely from the St.John's water dog, the black setter and collies.  This is the breed from which golden retrievers were later developed.  Flatcoats were the common retriever used by game-keepers in Britain and continue to be more popular in Europe than they are in North America.

Flatcoats are keen retrievers and excellent family dogs with a goofy personality and a great deal of energy.  We now breed flatcoats, emphasizing physical conformation, obedience and retrieving abilities.

I have been interested in photography since high school, but my activities decreased in the early 1990s.  In 2004 I bought my first digital SLR and rekindled my photographic interests.  I found myself viewing the world in a new way, particularly paying attention to light in every-day scenes.

Although I am interested in many aspects of photography, most of my time is devoted to photographing wildlife and nature.  Of course, our dogs are frequent subjects as well.
