Ouch, they’re all over the place! Pretty good view though. Give your digital camera a panorama workout. This location could be a bit dicey to get to after or during a substantial rain. The valley, Snake Valley, was a major route for the Blackfoot Confederacy. British and European settlers arrived in the 1880’s. The soil was rich and the climate was dry. By the early 1900’s, thoughts turned to irrigation. The British owned Canada Land and Irrigation Company built the dams and has been in operation since 1920. The site was named after the company’s Canadian manager, J.D. McGregor. Water comes via canal from the Bow River near Carseland.
Hint I like places where you can park your fanny.... then look down. Comments
PLANNING
We were in the area for other reasons and I decided to add a couple of geocache searches to the agenda.
OUTCOME
12:30 PM. This was the first search. It involved a hike of almost half a mile across the desolate prairie which was a very pleasant way to see the countryside. My travelling companion spotted the cache location while I was still trying to get a fix on the coordinates. Here is my posting to the geocaching.com website:
A very pleasant walk over the prairie. A great way to approach a cache. TNLNSL. TFTC. Here are a few photos:
