GC29Y82 Nothing without Sun N 50° 01.625 W 113° 34.920Difficulty 2; Terrain 1.5; size small; Creator: ELF43 Date First Hidden: 6/07/2010 Date Last Found: 8/15/2010 ClaresholmDescription A short walk through the Town of Claresholm, taking in some of its memorials. You will need a pen and paper to perform some calculations. The final cache is a small container, not much room for trading items; but I did leave Town of Claresholm pins for the first 7 visitors. The posted coordinates are for the parking area. Total length one way is 1.5 KM if you take advantage of a shortcut that is available to pedestrians only. If you miss the shortcut, the total length is 1.7 KM. If you do not want to walk, you can drive the route. There is ample parking at the different stages. The hunt for the geocache starts at the following coordinates: N 50* 01.663', W 113* 34.948'. From this location look at the building to the east of you, and namely, look at the front door. There is a four-digit number on the door indicating its address. Do the following calculations: first digit minus second digit = A first digit = B first digit minus second digit plus third digit minus fourth digit = C Next coordinates are: N 50* 01.6AB', W 113* 34.9AC'. Here, find the year of birth of the person that this memorial is dedicated to. first digit = D third digit = E Next coordinates are: N 50* 01.5BA', W 113* 35.0DE'. Use the digits of the year that are displayed in the banner. second digit minus first digit = F first digit plus last digit = G Next coordinates are: N 50* 01.4FG', W 113* 35.0BF'. No calculations at this stop, just enjoy. Next coordinates are: N 50* 01.1EE', W 113* 35.3EG'. On the plaque that dedicates this memorial, find the year that it was erected. last digit = H third digit = I Next coordinates are: N 50* 01.1FG', W 113* 35.3HD'. Here you will find the title for this geocache. The last coordinates for the actual cache are: N 50* 01.2DI', W 113* 35.3HB'.

PLANNING
I bought a Spot GPS Messenger device a couple of days ago and wanted to begin familiarizing myself with the characteristics of the tracking feature. There have been 3 new caches in Claresholm recently so I decided to drive there (about an hour) and try to find the 3 recent caches as well as one older one.
OUTCOME
This was my 3rd search today. This was a multi-cache with about 5 stops before one determines the coordinates for the container. The overall process was a bit easier than I expected as the first two sets of coordinates were within 50 m of each other. It also turned out that one could ignore 2 other sets as they didn't add anything to the answer. Also the final two sites were within a 100m of each other. The overall search did bring me in contact with features within Claresholm that I had not noticed before.
Here is my posting to the geocaching.com website:
