There's room for a few small trade items, or coins. The cache is located at a Rest Stop next to the Claresholm Museum and can be accessed by turning East at the only traffic light on highway 2 between Edmonton and Lethbridge. The Museum is open to the public from the May long weekend through to Thanksgiving. Bring a pencil/pen Claresholm began as a railway siding. In the 1880's the lush grasslands had drawn ranchers to the foothills to the West. Their herds of cattle roamed across the prairie as far East as the Little Bow River. With the construction of the rail line from Calgary to Macleod, ranchers were able to ship their cattle from Claresholm to markets elsewhere. The railway could also bring people here, and the siding would provide the nucleus for the town. In response to an extensive advertising campaign by the government of Canada and the Canadian Pacific Railway, settlers began to flood into this area. Hundreds of families came here from the Northern United States, for example, North Dakota, Minnesota, Oregon and also from Eastern Canada. They came for the free homestead land, and for the opportunity to have a better life for themselves and their families. Businesses flourished, providing the services needed in the area. Claresholm grew rapidly, and was granted town status on August 31, 1905. Reference townofclaresholm.com

PLANNING
I bought a Spot GPS Messenger device a couple of days ago and wanted to begin familiarizing myself with the characteristics of the tracking feature. There have been 3 new caches in Claresholm recently so I decided to drive there (about an hour) and try to find the 3 recent caches as well as one older one.
OUTCOME
This was my 2nd search today. I have been aware that there was a cache located on the caboose for some time but have been leery to try it as it seemed there would be too many possibilities. However the idea of combining a hunt for this with the three new caches was irresistible. It turned out to be much easier than I expected. Maybe I am beginning to notice the possibilities better.
Here is my posting to the geocaching.com website:
