Crowsnest Pass
Description This cache is located at a local river crossing, known as the Swinging Bridge. This foot bridge has been around for 50 or more years and is located in the eastern end of the Town of Blairmore, in the Municipality of the Crowsnest Pass. It was used by the locals for foot traffic, getting from the north side of the Crowsnest River to the south, which held the main shopping district of the town. Due to the relocation of the highway, many residences were removed. Added to this the accessibility to vehicles in this day and age, the bridge has little foot traffic anymore. It was a great attraction to the kids in the neighborhood 20 to 50 years ago. And it is still used and enjoyed by locals, both young and old alike. The bridge gets it's name from the construction material used, mainly heavy cable making up the hand rails and main deck support. This cable allows the bridge to be very flexible, both vertically and laterally. The lateral movement gives this foot bridge a swaying or "swinging" sensation. Thus the name. The cache is magnetic and you will need to bring a writing instrument along to sign the log book. Once you have signed the log, please enjoy the area and get a "feel" for the name of this bridge. Have fun and enjoy!

PLANNING

I created a set of 14 searches for the Crowsnest Pass. However by 1 PM I had visited them all. Two were occupied by muggles and I planned to try them again on the return trip. I used my iPhone to obtain the coordinates for one additional cache, which involved a good hike up a hill. It was 2 PM by the time I was back at the truck, so I headed home with two searches still in front of me. At this point I was 13/13. The final result for the day was 14/15.

OUTCOME

10:10 am This was my 6th search of the morning. I spent a few minutes walking forward and back on the bridge. Then I settled down to explore the near end of the bridge and after a few minutes located the magnetic key holder.

Here is my posting to the geocaching.com website:

I see that a number of boards were recently replaced on the bridge. A very good idea given how much it swings. SL. TFTC. One has a nice view of the Crowsnest River from there.

Here are a few photos:

I am now 6/6 for today.
