Description
In the Coulees is located on a pitchy hillside where caution is advised at all times. Travel to the cache involves significant gain / loss of elevation regardless of the route chosen. In the Coulees is a regular sized rectangular LnL container with the usual logbook, pencils, trading items, and initial traveller. The cache was placed to encourgage cachers to check out the many fine trails in the park. Come out and enjoy this special area.

Hint Under a small rock cairn on the hillside.

PLANNING

I noticed this posting in my email that I was viewing while the computer was busy burning a DVD. The sky was bright blue and I was still motivated from the event cache on the weekend, so I decided to combine my "walk in the coulee" with a little geocaching.

Previous trips to this area had taught me that parking near the college was a problem, but it wouldn't be that much further to park in the nearby sub-division.

OUTCOME

The morning was truly beautiful.

But the overnight fog had deposited a layer of ice on the truck windshield which took a bit a scraping to clear off before I hit the road. After parking the truck I began walking along the edge of the coulee. It was breath-taking. The frost on the trees was magic. I walked along the edge for a couple of hundred meters and then headed down to the bottom of the coulee. I was able to stay on a trail and then headed north, using my iPhone and the geocaching.com app. I was surprised that it worked as the signal is often weak or non-existent in the coulees. The compass app led me right to the cache and it only took a minute to spot it. I never did turn my GPS unit on.

Took geocoin, left patch.
Walked to vehicle.
Realized I didn't take geocoin.
Returned to cache, took geocoin.
My mind was in hibernation.

Thanks for the new cache. Great location.
