A. Morning Musings

3:00 PM It is +5 C at the moment with a high of +6 C forecast.

It has been just over a week since I last updated this site. We are back from a one-week trip to a resort in Cuba. Fantastic, but the poverty nearby was staggering.

During our stay there we had a couple of days of steady rain. This gave me an opportunity to read Richard Dawkins' "The Ancestor's Tale" (2004). I was also able to find time to read Lee Smolin's "Three Roads to Quantum Gravity" (2001) and am half way through Miriam Toews' novel "Summer of My Amazing Luck (1996).

We did notice a few birds at the resort. These included a dark pelican (a checklist indicate this would be the brown pelican). We also saw a few others, but never when I had the camera. There were a few dark irresescent green hummingbirds (Cuban Emerald Hummingbird), a few cattle egrets (?), a pair of shorebirds and a number of turkey vultures.
