A. Morning Musings

6:20 am It is + 14 C and clear. The forecast high is 24 C.

The first surprise is that it is still dark outside. The next step is to revert back to the format for these daily journal pages that I was using before our trip. This involves a table containing two images of the weather taken at about noon as well as a table listing the potential activities for both the day as well as in the near future.

Top priority is to return to a regular healthy routine (i.e. less eating and more exercise). But first, a sip of fresh coffee. Mmmm, good.

C. Actual/Notes

7:30 am I have uploaded all the web pages that describe our trip to Virginia. That only took a few minutes. The latest upgrade to Dreamweaver has certainly made a huge improvement for this activity.

In rereading the first couple of entries (August 16 & 17) I am reminded of the value of keeping a small notebook to keep track of little events (and Ideas!!) as they occur. I must try to make this a habit.

One item that I have just added to my planning table is that of creating a web site for North American birds that we have seen. I would like to do this using XML for the data base and then set up a few stylesheets to display different reports such as lifers, Alberta, 2006, etc.. I must have a close look at Dreamweaver and see if I can do this with this software.

Much of the day will be spent handling household chores as we settle in. Groceries will be a high priority.

I have reviewed my books that I bought while on the trip to Virginia and have decided to read the following brief volumes:

  • "In Praise of Folly" by Desiderius Erasmus
    • I have never read anything by Erasmus. This is my first opportunity.
  • "The Art of Living" by Epictetus
    • This is another book that I have seen referenced but have never actually seen. It looks like a gem.
  • "The Song of Roland"
    • This is the third book I bought based on seeing many references to it over the years.
  • "Science and the Akashic Field" by Ervin Laszlo
    • I have read the first chapter and liked it. It is easy to follow and looks like a lot of fun. The key idea is to think of the universe as a system that exchanges information with all of its constituent components.

I also want to begin each day with a puzzle from "The Orange Puzzle Cube Brainteasers". I solved the first one last night and have solved the second one this morning. A good beginning.

I have also added a couple of items called Puzzles and Food that correspond with additional activities that I don't want to forget. Today looks like it will be a busy one.
