Sunday January 22, 2006 7:20 am Ballina NSW A. Morning Musings 7:20 am Just a quick note before we leave for a Sunday brunch. The Internet connection is now working again and we checked our email. I will be a bit more careful monitoring our usage this week. Sunday is a day away from exercise (give those muscles a chance to recover) and Technology. Literature and magazines seem like a good idea. 7:25 am B. Plan 7:25 am Chores: None come to mind. Exercise: beach walk. Technology: Literature: Read & make notes for chapters 17 & 18. History: Read chapter 2 of Ideas. Food, Mathematics, Art and Drawing will not be active. 7:30 am C. Actual
11:40 am A couple of thoughts come to mind. One has to do with my desire to get the various Notebook web sites revised for 2006 data and put on a web server. This has been a priority item during the last week and is showing results. I now have 4 web sites ready for uploading: a Home web site, one for these daily Journals, and two Notebooks: Technology and Literature. History will be the next one to set up, and then Mathematics. Because of the dial-up quota I will wait until tomorrow and use the uni high-speed connection to get the files put on the University of Lethbridge web server. A second thought has to do with cameras and multimedia. This topic came up during brunch. The possibilities for better images, both photos and video, are lending incentive to re-examining what is now possible and how much it costs. I would like a camera capable of 10x zoom (with an attachment that doubles this?) for birds, plus a macro lens for close-ups of insects and flowers. Then a small cam-corder for video using a more modern format than avi. Dreamweaver help says "Flash SWF files or objects, QuickTime or Shockwave movies, Java applets, ActiveX controls" can all be inserted. Now to correlate this with camera information. 12:00 PM 3:00 PM The last hour has been spent revising these Journal web pages to include a set of links at the top of each page giving links to any Notebook pages that were created during the day. At the moment I have the links identified but since they will involve explicit URLs, they cannot be activated until I have the relevant Notebook web sites posted. Before I got onto this latter activity I spent a very enjoyable hour reading and making notes for chapters 17 & 18 of "The Story of the Stone". 3:10 PM 8:25 PM We are back from our walk along the Richmond river. It was pleasant with little wind. The afternoon was also very relaxing as we sat in the back patio and continued to read our novels. I finished reading and making notes for chapters 19 & 20, giving a total of 4 chapters today of "slow reading". Excellent! We tried another stir-fry recipe tonight: "Chicken and Cashew Nuts" [p. 99] from The Complete Stir-Fry Cookbook. D. Reflection 9:00 PM A superb Sunday. A fine brunch with Fran & Allan, a relaxing day with some enjoyable slow reading from "The Story of the Stone", and the incorporation of links from the two Notebook sites (Technology and Literature) to the corresponding Journal site and vice versa. The visual link is now in place but the actual link cannot be added until after I post the sites to the web server as I need to know the actual URL since they are between different web sites. I plan to drive into Lismore tomorrow morning and hook up to a high-speed ethernet cable and make some substantial progress on getting these web sites fully operational. 9:10 PM |
