A. Morning Musings

6:00 am I am up and the water is beginning to boil. The coffee will soon be ready. I can use a couple of slow sips this morning. One of the advantages of having ideas about this web site in January is that it is fairly easy to make changes to the layout and overall web structure. Thus I spent about an hour late last evening making changes (primarily deleting none 2006 pages) to the Technology Notes. I will definitely have that operational on the web today. Putting too much effort on this is likely time poorly spent as I still hope to redo all of this in XML using Stylus Studio - once I feel more comfortable with the software. 7:10 am

B. Plan

6:35 am Top priority, once again, is to spend some solid time on Stylus Studio. I hope to use Skype later this morning to contact the university about my password difficulties. We have yet to go out specifically to look for birds. The path to the lighthouse at Byron Bay is one possibility.

Exercise: Tummy stuff and a beach walk.

Technology: Stylus Studio (3 hours), revise and upload Technology Notes web pages.

Literature: Make Web notes for chapters 12 & 13, read chapters 14 & 15.

Food, Mathematics, History, Art and Drawing will not be active. 7:00 am

C. Actual

9:05 am This has been a fascinating beginning to the day. What began as a quick revision to Technology web site soon became a two and a half hour revision to the Daily Learning Journals. I think I have removed some ambiguities between the Home page and the Journal Index page. I also changed the layout to provide more space for the entries by removing the "dead" space under my photograph. Little changes can make a big difference to the appearance as well as the functionality of a page. Now to repost all of the pages to the web site. This took awhile as I am using a dial-up connection to the Internet. A test of the new pages seems to indicate everything is working, but the URL on the web site has been changed. (My apologies to those who recently received a URL for this site!).

I also was able to Skype the University of Lethbridge and get my access to the financial services web site working. I then submitted an online reimbursement claim for the Stylus Studio software. Now for a break away from the technology. I have been on the computer for 4 hours without a break. But it is very satisfying when everything works. 10:20 am

5:00 PM I have been having some problems with my digital wristwatch so I took it in to have the battery replaced. The person had a look at it and said the battery was fine, cleaned the contacts, and said to see if that made a difference (nocharge). That was about 1 PM and so far it is keeping time.

While downtown I bought a good looking book on Australian history, called Black Kettle and Full Moon by an Australian historian. It is a history of what life was like in the 70 years from about 1840 to 1910. I am looking forward to reading it.

Blainey

I bought some fish and chips at one of the local shops and brought it home for lunch. Delicious!

I have updated the Web site and notified everyone about the change in the URL. This all takes time. But I think I have everything working and back on track. No Stylus Studio learning today. But I did have fun cleaning up the web site so it only had 2006 data on it. 5:50 PM

D. Reflection

8:40 PM A full day, but the effort has been worth it. My watch is working, I have access to the University of Lethbridge web site again, I have notified all appropriate individuals about the change to the URL for this web site, and I have the Home page now working properly.

There has been fairly heavy rain this evening and the dial-up line keeps dropping, so I will have to wait until morning to upload the latest changes and verify that all the links between the Home site and the Journals site are working.

The rain prevented us from a beach walk today, so we will aim for a longer one tomorrow. I also became so wrapped up in modifying this site that I failed to do my exercises. Nothing is stopping me from some this evening though ... Done.

Let's try a systematic summary:

Exercise: Missed the morning routine and the beach walk. Did the evening routine.

Technology: Much of the day was spent revising and restructuring the material into two web sites: a new Home web site and this Journals web site. It is almost ready for a final test of all the links. No progress on Learning more about Stylus Studio.

Literature: This is the second day when I have failed to read more of the novel "The Story of the Stone".

History: I bought another book today: Black Kettle and Full Moon.

Mathematics: Nothing today.

But nothing can detract from the good feeling of getting this web site under total control. 8:55 PM
