Lismore, NSW. Sunny with cloudy patches, fairly breezy.

I am beginning my second "reading" of Raban's novel, "Passage to Juneau", lent to my by Bob Wright. I had started it about a month ago and made my way about a third of the way through, when a combination of worldly pressures and a realization that this was another book worth the effort of "reading slowly".

True to the form of my first three such ventures, I am feeling my way into a suitable structure. Let's see if I can suggest a few themes:

  • historical parallels
  • Raban's personal quest
  • the geography.

That seems like a promising start.

Each chapter also acts like a discrete part of the complete jouney:

  1. Fitting Out
  2. Deep Water
  3. Sailing into the Sublime
  4. Potts Lagoon
  5. Rites of Passage
  6. The Charred Remains
  7. On the Beach.

The titles are rich with extra meaning, although the last three chapters appear ominous.
I think I can set this web site up as 7 major pages containing Raban's journey, with 2 sub-sections for each page containing the history and geography.

I am in the process of cleaning up my various web site files. This site was originally created in Adobe GoLive, but I have just recreated it as a Dreamweaver site. I just created my first DW template, based on the pages I created for making notes on "a terrible beauty". I had to copy the template folder from the other DW site to this site using Windows, but it worked. Now to add a few chapter headings. The template does not allow me to modify the column widths. Now to edit the template. Easy! And powerful!

I now have a well-structured web site. Now to find time to read the book! [11:22 am]
