Purpose To set a GEOCAC Benchmark in all 50 States for inclusion in the NGS Data Base.
What is GEOCAC GEOCAC is the official agency code for Geocachers who report their benchmark recoveries to the National Geodetic Survey.
Information about this BENCHMARK This benchmark is made by Berntsen International and designed by GEO*Trailblazer 1 This benchmark is 4 inches in diameter and has a stud on the bottom that is 3 inches long that protrudes into the concrete. The concrete pedestal is approximately 5 foot deep and 12 inches in diameter with the lower part of the base approximately 24 inches in diameter. Each benchmark will have the official name GEOCAC. Once the actual benchmark disks are set and registered, you will be able to do a search in the National Geodetic Survey database and retrieve their coordinates. Plans are being made to have some of these locations established as geocaches (like this one), and of course they will be added to Waymarking.com

PLANNING
I put a set of 4 geocaches in my GPS unit that were all in the central tourist area of St. Augustine. The idea was to try for these while touristing the main attractions.
OUTCOME
This was my first search of the day. This was an ideal cache as the initial coordinates were the Tourist Information Center. The coordinates for the actual benchmark were inside the ammo box. Here is my posting to this geocaching.com website:
My first brass cap. The staff at the Information Center were friendly and helpful. TNLNSL. The coordinates brought us to the center of the tourist area and we had a pleasant walk and a great lunch in the vicinity. Now to find the other geocac benchmarks... TFTC. Here are a few photos:

I am now 1/1 for today.
