3:00 PM Life
After breakfast at a Perkin's restaurant in Bozeman we drove out to see the twin gold mining sites of Nevada City and Virginia City. They were a surprise as both places were full of interesting original buildings from the 1860's gold rushes.
Here are a few photos of Nevada City:
Yes, this is exactly what it looks like, a two-story outhouse!
Now for a few photos of Virginia City, which are slightly more modern:
We then returned to Bozeman where we visited a bookstore and did a little geocaching.
Here is a list of the 3 books I bought:
- "The Solace of Open Spaces" (1985) by Gretel Ehrlich.
- The title caught my eye. It describes life on the Wyoming plains.
- "Winter" (1991) by Rick Bass.
- This looks to be similar to the first book, but with a Montana focus. Both books were written about 20 years ago and the fact they are still in print suggests they are worthwhile.
- "The Heart of the Monster" (2010) by Rick Bass & David James Duncan.
- This is a recent book by the same author as the previous book. This is about "Why the Pacific Northwest & Northern Rockies Must Not Become an ExxonMobil Conduit to the Alberta Tar Sands". Should be very interesting.
4:00 PM Geocaching
Early this morning I put the coordinates into my GPS unit for one cache in the downtown area of Bozeman with the intent to search for it when I visited a nearby bookstore. It turned out to be near the Bozeman library and about 8 blocks from the bookstore. The search itself turned out to be a quick park and grab.
- GC2GERG - Book it
The Montana 600 led me to the correct lamp post making this an easy find.
